The Survival Case Hardened knife comes in 1000 different patterns, each one unique from the others. These survival case hardened patterns are often referred to as seeds. Each pattern displays a different mix of blue, purple, yellow, gold, and silver. Of the 1000 different seeds, only about 150 have blue on the playside of the knife’s blade. These much rarer Survival knife case hardened patterns are known as blue gems.

The Survival blue gems are typically placed in 1 of 4 categories called tiers, with tier 1 holding the most valuable patterns. Below, we’ve broken the tiers down and listed the best seed in each tier, starting with the holy grail.

Pattern 403

This is THE Survival Case Hardened Blue Gem to own. It’s what’s commonly called a true blue gem. And that’s because almost all of the playside of the knife’s blade is covered in blue. 

• Appearance: The only colors you’ll see on this blade are different shades of blue,  very little gold, and even less purple. In fact, almost 95% of this playside is covered in blue.
• Price (factory new): Can fetch over $20,000. This may be a lot. However, it’s nothing compared to the most expensive gloves in cs2.
• Float possibility: 0.00 – 1.00
• Investment overview: If you are lucky enough to get your hands on one, hold onto it. Holy grails never lose value.

There really is no better example of the blue gem Survival knife than this. Period. That being said, don’t expect it to be easy to get your hands on one. You’ll either need to be extremely lucky or rich, which is about the same thing.

Tier 1—Pattern 167

If you can’t get your hands on the holy grail, this is the next best case. Widely accepted as the second-best Survival blue gem.

• Appearance: Of course, seed 167 doesn’t have as much blue on the blade as seed 403. The shades of blues create a nice, almost marbled-looking appearance across the blade. Seed 167 has a bit more gold, yellow, and purple near the base of the blade. 
• Price (factory new): You can pick one up on average for about $5,000. They can go for less or more. So, be patient if you see one for sale over $5,000.
• Float possibility: 0.00 – 1.00
• Investment overview: In the past few years, the value of seed 167 has doubled. There’s no reason why it shouldn’t again. However, there’s always some risk to investing. So, keep that in mind.

A tier 1 Survival blue gem is just about as good as it gets. So if you happen to get your hands on one, don’t let it go.

Tier 2—Pattern 704

Pattern 704 almost has enough blue to make it into tier 1. However, there’s just a bit too much yellow and gold on the blade.. 

• Appearance:  Yellow and gold covers about 18% of the blade. The nice thing is, those colors are near the base of the blade. The rest of the blade is covered in various shades of blue.
• Price (factory new): Up to $2,500. $1,500 on the low side.
• Float possibility: 0.00 – 1.00
• Investment overview: Like seed 167, seed 704’s value has doubled in the past few years. Keep in mind, we’re talking about a tier 2 blue gem, so there’s no guarantee that trend will continue.

There’s nothing wrong with tier 2 blue seeds. A great knife at a much lower price than the previous two seeds.

Tier 3—Pattern 372

We’re now getting into the seeds that may have just the same amount of gold, yellow, and silver as they do blue. And because of this, you’ll see a significant price drop.

• Appearance: Unlike the previous survival case hardened patterns, the golds and yellows are located near the tip of the blade. There’s also a bit of yellow near the handle. 
• Price (factory new): Between $300 and $400.
• Float possibility: 0.00 – 1.00
• Investment overview: As it’s a blue gem, and like the others, the price has almost doubled in the past few years. However, it is what it is, a tier 3 blue gem.

For the average CS:GO and CS2 player, tier 3 patterns are still expensive. However, they are priced affordably enough to be the key skin of a collection.

Tier 4—Pattern 818

A survival blue gem is a blue gem, even if it’s a tier 4 blue gem. And this time, these blue gems are much more affordable.

• Appearance: About 30% of the blade, starting at the base, is a mix of yellows, gold, and purple. And, the golds are no longer isolated into large areas. There are a few small patches of gold closer to the tip.
• Price (factory new): $150 to $300
• Float possibility: 0.00 – 1.00
• Investment overview: Tier 4 presents the best value for the average player. Good skins that won’t depreciate over time. It’s a tier that is meant to collect for pleasure instead of pure investment.
