Gamers8 2023 Tournament Brief Overview

Gamers8 2023 is a tournament that, apart from a substantial cash prize, offers teams neither Blast Premier points nor tickets to future tournaments. As a result, teams competed solely for the monetary reward, which amounted to $400,000 for the winner. The total prize pool was $1,000,000. Sixteen of the world’s strongest teams were invited for an exciting competition.

Round of 16

The invited teams started in the Round of 16, where each team competed against a single opponent to secure a spot in the Quarterfinals. The teams that lost were eliminated.

The 16 teams faced off as follows:

  • Heroic vs Team Falcons (2:0)
  • Apeks vs GamerLegion (0:2)
  • Cloud9 vs Fnatic (2:0)
  • Team Liquid vs ENCE (0:2)
  • FaZe Clan vs Virtus.pro (1:2)
  • 9INE vs G2 Esports (1:2)
  • Natus Vincere vs FURIA Esports (2:1)
  • MIBR vs Team Vitality (2:0)

After the initial matches, eight teams remained in the tournament, with the victorious teams advancing to the Quarterfinals.

Gamers8 Quarterfinals

Eight teams faced off in the Quarterfinals, with only four advancing to the semi-finals. The matches followed a Best of 3 format.

Heroic vs GamerLegion

The opening quarterfinal match featured Heroic against GamerLegion. On the first map, Heroic showcased their strength on their signature map, Inferno, securing a dominant 16:3 victory. GamerLegion managed to strike back on the second map, Vertigo, winning with a 16:9 score. However, the turning point came on Overpass, where Heroic’s strong performance led them to a 16:7 victory.

Cloud9 vs ENCE

ENCE had shown strong performance in their previous match against Team Liquid, demonstrating their top form and coordination. Therefore, their match against Cloud9 was relatively easy for ENCE. They triumphed on both maps, Ancient with a 16:7 score and Anubis with a 16:6 score, securing their spot in the Semifinals.

Virtus.pro vs G2 Esports

A heated battle unfolded between Virtus.pro and G2 Esports. Despite Virtus.pro winning the first map, G2 turned the tables by claiming the following two maps, resulting in Virtus.pro’s exit from the tournament.

Natus Vincere vs Team Vitality

The first map was Mirage. Unfortunately for Natus Vincere, things didn’t go as planned, leading to a substantial 16:2 defeat. The second map didn’t fare much better for Natus Vincere, as Team Vitality secured another victory despite Natus Vincere securing 11 rounds.

Gamers8 Semifinals

With four teams showcasing awe-inspiring results, the games became even more intriguing as each team battled for a spot in the Grand final.

Heroic vs ENCE

Despite Heroic’s strong form and cohesive teamwork, ENCE appeared like an unstoppable force, overpowering their opponent completely. The first map, Nuke, was incredibly intense, concluding with ENCE’s victory with a 22:20 score. On Overpass, picked by Heroic, ENCE exhibited exceptional skill on this map, securing a decisive 16:5 triumph.

ENCE transformed into a dominant force that systematically defeated every rival. They reached the Grand Finals without conceding a single map – an achievement unmatched by any other team.

G2 Esports vs Team Vitality

During the pick and ban phase, G2 made an error by allowing Vitality to play on Mirage, a map where the French team has a strong win rate. Maybe that G2 was hoping for a quick 2:0 victory, but things didn’t go as planned. The first map, Inferno, favored Vitality, with a final 16:12 score.

Despite Vitality picking Anubis, they couldn’t secure a victory, losing 16:10. This led both teams to the decider map, Mirage, where Vitality made a determined effort and overcame their opponent with a 19:15 score.

Grand Final of Gamers8

Finally, the Titans met – two teams that had gone through a tough journey and showed us an amazing game.

Here’s the list of map selections and bans:

  • ENCE removed Inferno
  • Vitality removed Ancient
  • ENCE picked Anubis
  • Vitality picked Mirage
  • ENCE removed Overpass
  • Vitality removed Vertigo
  • Nuke was left over

Anubis

The first map started with Vitality on the CT side. However, they struggled to defend their positions effectively and lost rounds consistently due to the intense pressure from ENCE. In the first half, Vitality managed to win only 2 out of 15 rounds.

The second half began more promisingly for the French team. Vitality secured the first three rounds while playing as terrorists. Nevertheless, ENCE obtained the necessary devices in the fourth round and closed the game with a final 16:7 score.

Mirage

Moving on to the following map, Mirage, the prevailing prediction was a tied score of 1:1 rather than a clear 2:0 victory for ENCE.

The second map began on a positive note for the French team. Vitality secured the first three rounds while playing on the T side. However, their performance fluctuated throughout the match. Despite these ups and downs, their initial success gave them a 9:6 advantage at the end of the first half.

After switching sides, Vitality once again clinched three consecutive rounds. The pattern echoed the first half, with both teams determined not to yield any rounds. Yet, due to a slight lead, Vitality claimed the second map with a final 16:12 score.

Nuke

Nuke began favorably for Vitality as the French team swiftly won 5 rounds. However, despite their strong start, ENCE managed to hold their defensive positions and needed only to stabilize their economic situation. Once they achieved this, the game’s momentum shifted in ENCE’s favor. They halted Vitality’s winning streak, gradually gaining ground round after round, resulting in an 8:7 score advantage for ENCE by the end of the first half.

ENCE played on the attacking side in the second half, which is generally more challenging. For the initial five rounds, Vitality successfully fended off ENCE’s attacks, shifting the score to 12:8 in their favor. Then, in the 22 round, ENCE secured one round, but only one. Vitality went on to win the 23 and subsequent rounds, clinching the victory with a 16:9 score.

Congratulations to Vitality!
