Valve can surprise, and the last CS2 update is the best proof of that. It should be just a slight improvement of the game process, such as the “Mission Possible” Update. Now, the rules we are used to no longer apply. Moreover, the market changes before our eyes. The reason, for sure, lies in new possibilities of trade-up contracts. What’s happened and how does it affect the usual trades? Let’s save time and dive into our detailed overview of the last update!

Knife and Gloves Trade Ups

First things first, the CS2 October Update brings knife and glove trade ups. Now, every player can get a coveted Gold item within seconds. The only condition is that you have 5 Covert skins. For a better understanding, let’s check the details of two situations:

  • 5 StatTrak™ Covert skins: By using five of these skins in a trade-up contract, users can get a random StatTrak™ Knife. The collection that the knife belongs to depends on the skins you use. For example, if you mix skins from The Prisma 2 Collection and The Kilowatt Collection, you will get a knife from one of these collections.
  • 5 regular Covert skins: By using five of the regular skins in the trade-up contract, users can get a random knife or glove skin. Its collection also depends on the skins you use.

As you can see, the bringing knife and glove trade ups directly affect the rarity of Gold items. It’s easier to get them by using only five Covert skins. This feature wasn’t available since the release of the first cosmetic items.

MAPS

The other part of the CS2 October Update looks more similar to the “Mission Possible” Update and provides different minor upgrades for the following maps:

GAMEPLAY

One more good news is that Valve added CS2 Retakes to official matchmaking servers. It’s an official game mode that supports Defusal Group Alpha and Defusal Group Delta maps.

Also, Molotov and Smoke interaction logic was fixed in situations when several smokes are active on the map.

Re-Retakes

CS2 Retakes is a classic game mode, where each round is a 4v3 after-plant scenario. The plan is simple. Players should choose their loadout and use the resources to defuse or defend the planted bomb.

The available loadouts:

  • Hot Shot
    • Rifle
    • Molotov
    • Armor and helmet
  • TEC, TEC, BOOM!
    • SMG
    • Grenade
  • Finders Keepers
    • Rifle
    • Smoke
    • Flash
    • Armor and helmet
  • The AWPortunity
    • AWP
    • Armor and helmet

Inferno

With Inferno, Valve provides various optimizations. Additionally, adjustments have been made to the top of the Quad and under the Balcony to improve visibility.

MISC

Lastly, the CS2 October Update includes improvements for MISC. Here is a list of them:

  • The stability was improved.
  • Valve fixed several server-only sound events so they no longer start multiple times.
  • The video game developer fixed inventory item icons that sometimes appeared blurry or were not rendered at all.
  • The performance was optimized when the game was in the main menu and the item inspection UI.

Wrapping Up!

As we already noticed, the CS2 October Update changes the usual rules we used to. And, the players are divided into two camps. One side is ready to use their Covert skins to get a coveted knife or gloves, even if they are random. Another side cannot sell their Gold items by using a previous price. Of course, it’s too early to say precisely how the market will look a month or a few months after this update, but it certainly will not be the same.
