Valve Reveals Massive CS2 Update Ahead of IEM Cologne Major 2026
Summer is close enough to give us something we expected from winter. Of course, we are talking about the IEM Cologne Major 2026, which will start on June 5, 2026. And on June 21 we will know the new winners of the future major tournament. Still, right now, the main topic is not the major itself, but a new CS2 update. What Valve brought us this time, and why is it a new market change from November 2025? Follow our material to know all the details within minutes.
In article you will find:
Major
On May 22, 2026, Valve released a new update for CS2 that includes several features. The main one is undoubtedly the IEM Cologne 2026 Major Hub. Here, players can already purchase tournament items or play the Pick’Em Challenge. The detail we shouldn’t ignore is that the sticker system was entirely changed. Now, you don’t need to open capsules but can get the specific sticker you desire, whether it’s Foil ZywOo or Holo apEX. Just purchase tokens and redeem them for the item you want.
Also, you can get a Cologne 2026 Viewer Pass to receive an upgradable Cologne 2026 Coin. There are two options for different budgets, but the more expensive one gives you 900 tokens instantly. And by playing the Pick’Em Challenge, you can upgrade your Challenge Coin from Bronze to Silver, Gold, or Diamond. Each upgrade of it gives you 300 tokens.
Another important detail is Souvenir-O-Matic. This feature allows you to upgrade your standard or Souvenir weapon skin in the inventory into a new one. Just choose the skin, select a match and a player from it, and then obtain the same weapon in Souvenir quality. Additionally, your new weapon skin will feature gold stickers of the teams, autograph, and map.
UI
The CS2 new update includes a number of small fixes. For example, Valve fixed a case of incorrect scoreboard timeline presentation in overtime. Also, in some cases, there was a hint text about picking up weapons, which actually disallows pickup. In the end, the spectator’s in-eye flash amount was increased.
MISC
One detail we should especially explore is the new CS2 trade-up system. You might remember the extreme changes in the skin market after the trade-up update in November 2025. Now, Valve has decided to bring Souvenir skins to trade-up contracts, too.
In other words, you can use 10 Souvenir skins in trade-up contracts without an issue. Moreover, you can mix Souvenir and standard skins. Each such trade-up contract gives you a standard skin of a quality one higher.
Among the other changes, Valve fixed a case where tire fire particles were flickering in the advanced video preview. Also, on the Bayonet model, the finger animation was adjusted.
Conclusion
As you can see, Valve can surprise the community even with such a CS2 update. While the IEM Cologne 2026 Major Hub is the expected feature, the possibility to use Souvenir skins in trade-up contracts is not what players waited for. Similar to using Covert skins in contracts, it was a common fact we used to for years. No less important is the lack of sticker capsules. While the value of items was based on their rarity and drop odds, we now know their prices from the start. But how will it affect the market? One thing is certain: Souvenir skins will be more expensive from now on.
